Agnolo Bronzino

(Italian, 1503–1572)

Room Paintings holds six paintings by Agnolo Bronzino, from the National Gallery of Art, The Met and the Cleveland Museum of Art. They date from 1527 to 1560. We file most of them under Mannerism, and some under Renaissance. The most common subjects are portraits, women and children. Five of them suit a room in our lists, most often the hallway or entryway and staircase.

Two women, a man, and two pudgy children create a close-knit group against a dark brown background in this vertical painting. The people all have pale skin with rosy cheeks, blond or copper-colored hair, and delicate gold rings as halos.
