Paintings for this wall
Echo, contrast or neutral
Echoes your wall means a painting carries a real amount of your wall's own hue at a similar strength, so wall and picture read as one calm surface.
Contrasts with your wall means the painting is built around the opposite color on the color wheel, so it stands forward. A sage wall and a terracotta still life, say.
Neutral with your wall means neither: soft, low-color pictures that sit quietly. On white, gray and very dark walls nothing truly echoes or contrasts, so paintings are grouped by warmth, softness and brightness instead.
The guide to matching paintings to your wall color explains when to choose each, and the art size calculator works out how big the painting should be.
Paintings for every wall color
- Pure White The gallery wall: every palette reads true, and the most vivid paintings lead, because strong color pops on white.
- Warm White A touch of cream softens the gallery look and flatters golden palettes, so the warmest paintings come first.
- Cream Old-house warmth; the wall color most Old Masters were painted for.
- Greige The modern neutral that hides behind almost any painting, with soft, muted works first.
- Light Gray Cool and even; lets blues and greens breathe, so the coolest palettes come first.
- Charcoal Dramatic and forgiving: paintings glow against it.
- Black A true gallery black for one bright painting with a wide mat.
- Sand Beach-house warmth that suits coastal and pastoral scenes.
- Taupe A grounded mid-neutral for traditional rooms.
- Terracotta Sunbaked and bold; pair with blues or lean in with warm landscapes.
- Blush Soft pink that flatters portraits and florals.
- Dusty Rose Deeper than blush, warmer than mauve; a bedroom favorite.
- Burgundy Library red: gilt frames and dark landscapes belong here.
- Mustard A confident yellow that loves blue-and-white and Dutch interiors.
- Sage Green The calm green of the decade; botanicals and soft landscapes echo it.
- Olive Earthy and warm; suits harvest scenes and still lifes.
- Forest Green Deep and enveloping; a frame for anything luminous.
